I’m sure if you are anything like me, when you were a child you had dreams of doing big things when you grew up. Some of us wanted to astronauts, others fire fighters and police officers, or maybe you wanted to be a doctor or lawyer. Myself personally, I wanted to be a pro golfer, Just like my dad. As I got older and started to get bigger (a lot bigger), I realized that maybe golf wasn’t my best option so I started shifting my goals to being a pro football player. I put all of my focus and energy towards that. I did all the right things. I got a scholarship to play at the division 1 level. Everything seemed to be working out just as I planned. I had found my purpose in life. Then it was pulled out right from underneath my feet. All that time, energy, and effort had been for nothing. I was a lost soul, wondering aimlessly with no purpose at that point. I was broken. Then I found drugs and that made me feel fixed, but only for short periods of time. I realized that after a while, the only purpose I gave myself was to get high and find ways to get money to get high. That is a crushing reality. It was tough to go through life with the only purpose of getting high. One day when I woke up, I had the realization that I could change the direction of my life simply by changing the purpose of my life. I remembered years ago changing the purpose from golf to football. Why couldn’t I do the same things with drugs? This completely changed the way I looked at things. I decided then and there that my purpose would no longer be to get high, but rather NOT get high. Did my purpose in life change overnight? No, but my thinking did.
So can yours.
